Former Personal Assistant to erstwhile Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Ajiboye Akande Sangogade, popularly known as Boye Nation, has broken his silence on his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Sangogade said his decision was driven by personal political conviction, his assessment of the evolving political landscape in Oyo State and his desire to create greater opportunities for youth participation in governance.
He spoke in Ibadan against the backdrop of the Boye Nation/JAF Movement Mega Concert held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, where he formally led hundreds of youths, traders, artisans and other supporters from the APC into the APM ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Explaining the move, Sangogade said he had reached a point where remaining on the sidelines of the political process was no longer an option, particularly as the 2027 elections would have significant implications for the political future of young people in the state.
“I was a former Personal Assistant to Chief Adebayo Adelabu. I am not in any way in crisis with anyone. I’m mature enough to make a decision,” he said.
Sangogade was emphatic that his realignment should not be interpreted as a disagreement with his former principal.
“The decision I made has nothing to do with my former boss, Chief Adelabu; it was a decision I took independently,” he stated.
According to him, his decision to identify with the APM was based on his conviction that the platform could provide a new avenue for political participation and give young people a stronger voice in determining the direction of governance.
He subsequently declared his support for the APM governorship candidate in Oyo State, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, urging members of his political structure across the 33 local government areas to mobilise behind the candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Sangogade also urged young people joining the movement to move beyond passive political participation and become actively involved in shaping the political process.
He stressed that his defection was not merely about changing political parties, but about building an organised platform capable of expanding youth participation and representation in governance.
The former Adelabu aide described the massive turnout at the Boye Nation/JAF Movement Mega Concert as evidence of the growing mobilisation around the movement and its political platform.
The event, themed “Young, United, Unstoppable (YUU),” attracted thousands of supporters and formally marked the reception of Sangogade and his supporters into the APM.
