Federal Workers Demand ₦300,000 Minimum Wage, Seek ₦1.5m for Level 17 Officers.

Federal workers under the aegis of the Federal Workers Forum have demanded a ₦300,000 minimum wage, alongside a proposed ₦1.5 million monthly salary for Level 17 officers, in a fresh push for a comprehensive review of the federal wage structure.

The demand was contained in a letter dated September 2, 2026, signed by the forum’s National Coordinator, Andrew Emelieze, and General Secretary, Ogundele Ayodele, and addressed to the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives through the Clerk of the National Assembly.

President Bola Tinubu, the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation were also listed among the recipients.

The forum specifically justified its demand on the grounds that the current wage structure no longer reflects the economic realities confronting federal workers. It argued that prevailing salaries have become increasingly inadequate amid the pressures workers face in meeting their basic financial obligations.

According to the forum, the proposed ₦300,000 minimum wage is therefore necessary to provide a more realistic income floor for federal employees, while the ₦1.5 million salary proposed for Level 17 officers is intended to bring senior-level remuneration in line with present economic conditions.

The demand signals renewed pressure on the Federal Government and the National Assembly to reconsider the existing remuneration framework for federal workers.
