EKITI @ 30: OPO HONOURS FOUNDING FATHERS, CELEBRATES STATE’S HISTORIC JOURNEY.

By Francis Adewumi

Otunba Dr. Olugbenga Peter Obafemi (OPO), Social Democratic Party (SDP) senatorial candidate for Ekiti North, has congratulated Ekiti State on its 30th anniversary, paying tribute to the patriots whose sacrifices culminated in its creation on October 1, 1996.

In a goodwill message issued by his campaign media team, Obafemi described the creation of Ekiti as the triumph of collective struggle, sacrifice and an enduring aspiration for self-determination.

He noted that three decades on, the state has continued to uphold its identity as the Land of Honour, with contributions to education, human capital development and Nigeria’s national growth.

Obafemi particularly honoured the contributions of Pa Ojo Falegan, Pa Deji Fasuan, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, Senator Bode Olowoporoku and the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe Aladesanmi III, alongside traditional rulers, political leaders, market women, artisans, youths, students, civil servants and other stakeholders who helped realise the Ekiti dream.

He said their legacy remained a foundation for future generations and a reminder of the value of unity, patriotism and collective responsibility.

“Ekiti at 30 is not merely a celebration of age, but a celebration of our unity, resilience and shared identity as a people,” he said, extending his felicitations to residents of Ekiti North and Ekiti indigenes across the world.

The SDP candidate urged the people to preserve the ideals that inspired the state’s creation and sustain the collective commitment required to advance its development.

He added that the anniversary offered an opportunity to honour the past, assess the present and renew the aspiration for a more prosperous Ekiti.

As the state marks three decades of existence, Obafemi reaffirmed the importance of drawing inspiration from the sacrifices of its founding figures to build a future that reflects the hopes and aspirations of its people.
