Nigeria at 66: OPO Calls for a New National Resolve Anchored on Unity, Justice and Good Governance.

SDP’s Ekiti North Senatorial Candidate Urges Renewed Patriotism, Inclusive Development and Purposeful Leadership

As Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary, Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi (OPO), the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for Ekiti North Senatorial District, has called for renewed patriotism, national unity, social justice and a collective commitment to building a nation where freedom translates into dignity, opportunity and shared prosperity.

In his Independence Day message to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, Obafemi described the anniversary as an important moment for national reflection, urging citizens and leaders alike to renew their commitment to the ideals of nationhood and the collective responsibility of securing a better future for generations to come.

Acknowledging the challenges confronting the country, he emphasised the need for purposeful leadership and people-centred governance that prioritise economic opportunities, quality education, accessible healthcare, youth empowerment, infrastructure development and improved living standards.

He maintained that the true significance of independence lies not merely in the remembrance of history, but in the nation’s ability to translate its freedom into tangible progress, equal opportunities and a better quality of life for its citizens.

The SDP candidate further stressed the importance of building a society where justice is upheld, public institutions serve the common good, and the aspirations of ordinary Nigerians receive meaningful attention in governance and national development.

Reaffirming his commitment to the people of Ekiti North, Obafemi pledged to pursue effective representation and purposeful service, with emphasis on ensuring that the needs, concerns and developmental priorities of his constituents remain central to the legislative agenda.

He urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and united, noting that the task of nation-building requires a shared sense of responsibility, mutual understanding and sustained commitment beyond political, ethnic and religious differences.

“As we celebrate 66 years of independence, let us renew our faith in Nigeria and strengthen our collective resolve to build a nation where justice prevails, opportunities abound and every citizen can live with dignity and hope,” the message conveyed.

Obafemi wished Nigerians and the people of Ekiti State a memorable Independence Day, expressing optimism for a more peaceful, inclusive and prosperous nation.

For OPO, the enduring promise of independence must be measured not only by the years behind us, but by the dignity, opportunities and possibilities we create for the generations ahead.
