The Oyo State governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, has declared his commitment to independent leadership, insisting that his decisions and performance in office should be judged on their own merit.
Speaking today at the Global Shapers Community Summit, Adekanmbi addressed the sensitive issue of political godfatherism and succession, making his position unequivocal: “I have a mind of my own.”
His declaration underscores the distinction between continuity and dependence. While a successor may preserve successful policies, build on existing achievements and correct areas requiring improvement, such responsibility does not diminish the need for independent judgment, vision and accountability.
The position also aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s previously expressed view that his successor should chart an independent course and should not inherit his political enemies.
Should Adekanmbi secure the people’s mandate in 2027, his leadership, policies and results must therefore speak for themselves. Success should earn him the credit, while shortcomings should attract the responsibility and accountability that public office demands.
The future of Oyo State, the Youth Rebirth Movement maintains, must be defined not by political control or personal allegiance, but by vision, competence, courage and the capacity to deliver meaningful progress.
Bimbo Adekanmbi must be given the opportunity to write his own chapter. Ultimately, the people of Oyo State will judge that chapter by its results.
