Saki Polytechnic Tragedy: Man Kills Student, Injures Another Before Hanging Himself.

SAKI, OYO — Tragedy struck Saki, Oyo State, late Friday night when a 38-year-old man identified as Tobi allegedly attacked two students of Michael Koleoso Polytechnic (MAKPOLY), formerly The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, killing one and leaving another critically injured before reportedly taking his own life.

It was gathered that the incident occurred around midnight on Friday at a residence where Tobi, an indigene of Saki, reportedly lived with some polytechnic students in his grandmother’s house.

Further findings revealed that Tobi allegedly forced his way into the room of an HND 1 student, Oluwaferanmi Babayomi, and attacked her with a cutlass, leaving her with severe injuries to her head, arm and ribs.

Babayomi was reportedly admitted to Baptist Medical Centre, Saki, on Saturday and is awaiting transfer to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

The second victim, who was said to have been in Saki for her Industrial Training with her sister, was allegedly killed during the attack.

It was further gathered that another student in the house, who had briefly stepped out, raised the alarm and alerted operatives of the Amotekun Corps.

Tobi reportedly resisted apprehension, using pot covers as improvised shields and allegedly challenging the security personnel to shoot him.

He later reportedly entered another student’s room, broke through the ceiling and hanged himself with a DSTV cable.

Meanwhile, the surviving victim remains hospitalised, with her treatment reportedly hampered by financial difficulties. Her family and well-wishers are appealing for urgent financial assistance to sustain her medical care.

As of the time of filing this report, the Oyo State Police Command and the Amotekun Corps had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
