Oriire Abduction: Makinde Receives Judicial Panel Report, Sets Stage for Stronger Security Measures.

 Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has received the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry constituted to investigate the May 15, 2026 abduction of students and teachers from Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

The report was formally presented to the governor at the Executive Council Chamber in Ibadan, in the presence of the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, and members of the State Executive Council.

The victims reportedly endured 56 days in captivity before they were eventually released, sparking concerns over the security of schools and communities in the affected area.

Following the submission, Oyo State House of Assembly Speaker,  RT. Hon

 Edward Ogundoyin commended the chairman and members of the judicial panel for their dedication and commitment to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident and developing recommendations capable of strengthening the state’s security architecture.

Ogundoyin reaffirmed the Oyo State House of Assembly’s commitment to supporting legislative measures designed to enhance security, safeguard schools and communities, and protect residents across the state.

He stressed that the lessons arising from the Oriire incident must translate into practical security reforms and stronger preventive mechanisms to minimise the possibility of a recurrence.

The submission of the report marks a significant step in the state’s response to the abduction, with its recommendations expected to provide further direction for strengthening the protection of schools, students, teachers and vulnerable communities across Oyo State.
