NPSGGG Holds Oyo Prayer Summit, Mobilises Support for Tinubu, APC Candidates Ahead of 2027.

The Oyo State Chapter of the National Prayer Support Group for Good Governance (NPSGGG) on Thursday, August 20, 2026, held an interdenominational prayer summit in Ibadan, bringing together clerics, stakeholders and APC supporters to pray for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

Held at Alice Hall, opposite the University College Hospital (UCH) Second Gate, the summit, themed “Order Our Affairs,” combined spiritual intercession with grassroots mobilisation for the forthcoming general elections.

Speaking at the event, NPSGGG Director-General, Alhaji Abdul-Hakeem Olanrewaju Olatunji Adekunle Atilade, described the summit as a defining moment in the group’s commitment to sustaining prayer and support for good governance beyond election periods.

Atilade said NPSGGG had been recognised by the APC National Secretariat as a support group and maintained structures across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as coordinators and secretaries across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.

He claimed the group had the capacity to mobilise up to one million votes for the APC in 2027, potentially doubling that figure through a one-to-one voter mobilisation strategy.

The NPSGGG DG also reaffirmed the group’s support for Senator Sharafadeen Alli and Hon. Adesoji Michael Adedeji, whom he identified as the APC’s candidates for Oyo Central, while urging members to mobilise at the grassroots.

He, however, appealed to APC leaders and stakeholders for financial support, saying the group had largely funded its activities through self-sponsorship. He disclosed that its Abuja and Lagos programmes cost about N15 million and N6 million respectively, while the Oyo summit was budgeted at N4 million.

The summit featured separate Christian and Muslim messages, with clerics urging political leaders to govern with wisdom, justice, compassion and the fear of God.

Pastor Alagbe Vincent, citing 1 Timothy 2:1, called on Nigerians to pray for those in authority, stressing that decisions taken by leaders affect the entire population.

Muslim scholar Alhaji Oniountu, citing Qur’an 4:59 and 8:27, described leadership as a divine trust and urged political leaders to uphold justice, integrity and accountability.

The Oyo State Coordinator of NPSGGG, Mrs Mariam Abiola, also urged residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and complement prayer with active civic participation in the 2027 elections.

Atilade further criticised the opposition over what he described as failures in governance, citing abandoned projects, security concerns and alleged financial mismanagement. He urged Nigerians to support what he described as a new political direction ahead of 2027.

The event concluded with joint Muslim and Christian prayers for Nigeria, Oyo State, President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima and APC candidates, followed by the inauguration of the Oyo State Executive Committee of NPSGGG.

In his closing remarks, Atilade urged members to return to their wards and local government areas to intensify grassroots mobilisation, expressing optimism that Nigeria could achieve better governance through prayer, unity and collective action.
