The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has commended political parties for their cooperation ahead of the December 29, 2026 Local Government Council Elections, while urging strict compliance with amendments to the revised electoral timetable.
Speaking after the Commission’s meeting in Ibadan, OYSIEC Chairman, Dr. Afees Adeniyi, said the adjustments followed an IPAC-requested extension of the period for party primaries, particularly for parties unable to meet the earlier July 27 deadline.
Adeniyi disclosed that political parties had submitted the required candidate data, with the September 30, 2026 deadline fixed for withdrawal and replacement of candidates.
He also announced that the activity formerly described as “Screening of Chairmanship and Councillorship Candidates” is now designated “Screening and Publication of the Personal Particulars of Candidates Nominated by Political Parties.”
The Chairman urged all parties and stakeholders to adhere strictly to the amended schedule, stressing that collective compliance remains crucial to delivering a credible, peaceful and transparent local government election.
