Land Dispute Turns Violent in Eruwa as Police Arrest Suspect Over Machete Attack.

ERUWA, OYO — The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspect over an alleged machete attack linked to a land dispute in Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government Area, with detectives intensifying efforts to apprehend two other suspects reportedly involved in the incident.

The attack, according to the command, occurred on September 11, 2026, at about noon on a farmland between Eruwa and Ayete, around Abule Oba-Gboru Village through Okanlawon Village—an area reportedly embroiled in a land dispute.

The victim was said to have encountered three men, identified as Agboola Emmanuel, Dare Agboola and Monday, who were allegedly engaged in charcoal production when a disagreement reportedly developed into a physical confrontation.

The three men allegedly attacked the victim with machetes, leaving him with injuries.

The incident was reported to the police on September 14 by a man who reportedly intervened, rescued the victim and ensured he received medical attention before notifying the authorities.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said detectives from the Eruwa Divisional Police Headquarters visited the scene and commenced investigation.

Agboola Emmanuel was subsequently arrested and, according to the police, allegedly admitted his involvement during interrogation. Investigators said information obtained from him helped establish the identities of the two other suspects, Dare Agboola and Monday, whose arrest is being pursued.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, warned residents against resorting to violence in land and boundary disputes, stressing that a civil disagreement does not confer the right to assault, threaten or intimidate another person.

He urged disputing parties to seek redress through the courts and other recognised lawful mechanisms, noting that a matter could assume a criminal dimension once violence or the use of weapons was introduced.

The command assured the public that necessary action would be taken against anyone who attempts to enforce a perceived right through violence, while urging all parties to remain peaceful and law-abiding.

For emergencies, residents can contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre on 615, or the Police Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.
