IBADAN, Oyo State — The Egbe Borokinni Ti Ile Ibadan Foundation has held a special intercessional prayer in honour of the late Borokinni Sheikh Sirajudeen Akanni Asukuna, with Islamic scholars, traditional chieftains, family members and dignitaries gathering to celebrate his life and legacy.
The programme, held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Ibadan House, Oke Aremo, Ibadan, was organised under the leadership of Borokinni Aare Yusuf Olatunji Lawal Cacatin, Aare Balogun Mayegun of Ibadanland.
Delivering a lecture at the gathering, Khalifat Qozeem Ajisafe Akilapa described the late Sheikh as an exemplary Yoruba icon whose life reflected selflessness, integrity, love and service to humanity.
He urged attendees to live impactful lives, noting that the tributes and prayers offered after death are often a reflection of the legacy a person leaves behind.
The President of Borokinni expressed deep grief over the death of the Sheikh, whom he described as a close associate and committed member of the organisation. He announced plans to build a mosque in Ibadan in his memory, with assurances that the late cleric’s name would remain permanently associated with the project.
He also pledged continued support for the deceased’s family and disclosed plans to formally coronate his son, Alhaji Usman Olamilekan Asukuna, to continue his father’s role within Borokinni.
The BOT Chairman similarly confirmed that the proposed mosque would be constructed in Ibadan and granted the deceased’s son a two-year membership waiver after his formal admission into the organisation.
He further appealed to the Asukuna family to continue involving the Borokinni Foundation in major family events as a means of preserving the longstanding relationship between both sides.
Speaking on his father’s legacy, Alhaji Usman Olamilekan Asukuna described him as a man of immense impact whose teachings and values continue to influence his life.
The deceased’s younger brother, Alhaji Mohamadu Saheed Akanji Asukuna, also recalled his brother’s pivotal role in maintaining family unity, describing him as a peaceful and responsible figure who remained a pillar of support following the death of their father 24 years ago.
The intercessional prayer concluded with further prayers for the repose of Sheikh Sirajudeen Akanni Asukuna’s soul and blessings upon his family, while attendees paid tribute to his enduring contributions to Islam, the Borokinni family and the wider community.
