Ekiti North 2027: Obafemi Condemns Ayeni Campaign Office Vandalism, Calls for Peace.

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) senatorial candidate for Ekiti North, Otunba Dr. Olugbega Peter Obafemi, popularly known as OPO, has condemned the reported vandalisation of the campaign office of his fellow senatorial contender, Dr. Funso Ayeni of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in Ido-Osi Local Government Area.

Obafemi described the incident as disturbing and contrary to the peaceful political culture of Ekiti North, stressing that political differences should never degenerate into violence or destruction.

While making it clear that his position should not be interpreted as support for Ayeni’s candidacy, the SDP candidate said his reaction was driven by a commitment to peace, democratic values and the collective interest of the people.

«“We are brothers and sisters before politics. No political ambition is worth the tears or blood of our people,” Obafemi said.»

He urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate the reported incident and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the law.

The SDP candidate also appealed to political leaders, candidates and supporters across Ikole, Oye, Ido-Osi, Moba and Ilejemeje Local Government Areas to reject provocation and prioritise the unity and security of the people.

According to him, political contests should be centred on competing ideas and credible solutions to challenges confronting the people, including youth unemployment, education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture and security.

“After elections, we will still remain one Ekiti North. Our children will still attend the same schools, our mothers will still trade in the same markets, and our families will still live in the same communities,” he added.

Obafemi reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful, credible and issue-based electioneering ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging residents to remain calm, law-abiding and committed to preserving peace across Ekiti North.
