Tech-U Commissions N1.3bn TETFund Staff Office Complex, Ends Years of Accommodation Challenge.

The Abiola Ajimobi Technical University (Tech-U), Ibadan, has taken delivery of a new staff office complex executed through a N1.3 billion intervention from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), in a major boost to staff welfare and academic infrastructure.

The facility, formally handed over to the university on Saturday, comprises 10 professorial offices with research assistants’ spaces, 10 ensuite professorial offices and 14 offices for other senior lecturers.

The ceremony was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adesola Ajayi; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Caleb Aborisade; Registrar, Mrs. Omolola Olanrewaju, and other university officials.

Speaking at the handover, Ajayi described the project as a significant milestone in the institution’s development, noting that inadequate office accommodation had remained a major challenge since the university’s establishment.

According to him, the project was particularly remarkable because TETFund had previously directed institutions that had benefited from its interventions for over five years to channel subsequent allocations towards maintaining existing infrastructure rather than embarking on new construction.

He disclosed that Tech-U successfully secured approval to utilise its N1.3 billion TETFund intervention for the staff office project, making it one of the institutions granted an exception.

“The university identified staff office accommodation as one of its most pressing needs. Several spaces previously used as offices were not originally designed for that purpose,” Ajayi said.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed optimism that the new facility would enhance the working environment and academic productivity, while pledging that the university would pursue additional TETFund interventions to address other infrastructure deficits.

He also appealed to the contractor to support the institution through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by assisting with connecting the new facility to electricity.

Ajayi commended APD Associates, the project consultant; Kadex Express Limited, the contractor; and the university’s maintenance team for their roles in delivering the project.

In separate remarks, the consultant, Abdulateef Majolagbe of APD Associates, and the contractor, Kayode Durojaiye of Kadex Express Limited, commended the university management for its cooperation, effective supervision and proactive approach throughout the construction process.
