2027: Masquerades May Dance, But Oyo Electorate Holds the Trump Card.

By: Gbenga Ajani.

As the 2027 political season gathers momentum in Oyo State, emerging exchanges between political actors have triggered a fresh debate over influence, accountability and the battle for public perception.

A recent challenge by a veteran politician for an alleged political “masquerade” to openly declare his identity and political agenda has now taken an interesting turn, following a response in which the critic reportedly vowed to mobilise support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the election.

But beneath the political fireworks lies a decisive reality: the electorate—not political commentators, financiers or power brokers—will ultimately determine Oyo’s 2027 direction.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration will face voters with its record across infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, security and economic development, while those seeking to replace it will equally be judged on their credibility, character, ideas and capacity.

Criticism remains vital to democracy, but the electorate will increasingly demand facts, alternatives and measurable solutions rather than personal attacks, sponsored narratives or politics conducted from behind the curtains.

From civil servants and pensioners to traders, farmers, artisans, professionals and youths, Oyo voters will carry their experiences into the polling booths.

The masquerades may dance, the drums may grow louder and the political narratives may multiply—but when the music stops in 2027, the people will have the final say.
