Oyo Begins Statewide Waste Bin Crackdown, Gives Defaulters 48 Hours.

IBADAN — The Oyo State Government has commenced a statewide enforcement of its house-to-house waste collection policy, directing residents, businesses and other establishments without approved waste management arrangements to comply within 48 hours or face closure.

The enforcement, which commenced on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, is being carried out by environmental officers of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources through inspections of residential and commercial premises.

Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, said the exercise was necessitated by the environmental, aesthetic, economic and public health consequences of improper waste disposal.

Aderinto said officials were checking premises for appropriate waste bins and registration with approved waste consultants designated to their respective locations.

He disclosed that defaulters were being served abatement notices with a 48-hour grace period, after which non-compliant premises could be sealed.

The Commissioner urged residents to obtain appropriate waste bins and patronise only approved waste collectors, while advising them to report accredited consultants who fail to evacuate waste as required.

He warned that erring waste consultants would face sanctions, including possible revocation of their operating licences.

The government said the enforcement would continue across the state until substantial compliance is achieved.
