IBADAN — The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC) has backed the arrest of suspects linked to the alleged vandalism of electricity infrastructure in Ikirun, Osun State, while suspending staff members allegedly implicated in the incident.
The company’s Coordinating Head, Corporate Services, Angela Olanrewaju, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan on Wednesday.
Olanrewaju said the implicated employees had been suspended pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation, stressing that IBEDC would cooperate fully with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure a transparent and impartial probe.
She said the company would also impose appropriate internal sanctions in accordance with its policies and applicable laws should the allegations be established.
According to her, IBEDC maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards vandalism, theft of electricity infrastructure and other unethical or criminal conduct.
Olanrewaju warned that the rising incidence of infrastructure vandalism was increasingly undermining electricity supply, disrupting communities and imposing avoidable hardship on customers through prolonged outages.
She reaffirmed IBEDC’s commitment to working with security agencies and relevant authorities to ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The company also appealed to customers, community leaders and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around electricity installations.
IBEDC said protecting critical power infrastructure remains central to its commitment to accountability, reliable electricity distribution and improved service delivery across its franchise area.
