Makinde’s LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Upgrade Takes Shape, 400-Bed Facility Targets Q1 2027 Completion.

IBADAN, OYO STATE — The ongoing comprehensive upgrade of the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Oyo Annexe, is steadily transforming the facility into a modern healthcare and medical training hub, with completion scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.

The project, which commenced on 18 February 2026, followed Governor Seyi Makinde’s December 8, 2025 announcement that the long-neglected facility would be reconstructed and upgraded for full operation.

The intervention encompasses the rehabilitation of existing clinic and administrative buildings and the construction of major new facilities, including 400-bed male and female wards, an Accident and Emergency Unit, laboratories, maternity and intensive care facilities, a diagnostic centre, student hostels and staff quarters.

The project also includes supporting infrastructure such as internal roads, potable water, power systems, solar security lighting and a mortuary.

Upon completion, the upgraded annexe is expected to substantially expand healthcare capacity across Oyo Zone, strengthen access to emergency and specialist services, and provide improved facilities for the training of medical personnel.

The development represents a major investment in the state’s healthcare infrastructure, with the completed facility projected to serve both patients and the next generation of healthcare professionals.
